There are so many books out there dedicated to the ‘art’ of being a mom. Most of them are garbage…I will admit, I bought “The Posh Mom Life” hoping to get some wisdom into looking good, having happy kids and maintaining a social life. $20 later, and I realize it might be much more desirable to stay in my pjs all day then to try to fake that life with 2 kids is effortless. Others just seem to stress that you need a babysitter. Sure, that sounds great, and I am looking forward to Abs being in school so I have some free time during the week, but what about the 50+ hours per week that I spend with these girls? How do I make that more fun and productive?
Do I really need a book to remind me to get dressed every day? To make sure I eat and exercise and take care of myself? Sometimes. Sad, but true. I know how to do these things through years of practice, but I do sometimes forget. It sometimes just takes seeing it written down to jog my memory. I just took a book out of the library called “A Life Makeover for Stay-at-Home Moms” and so far, so good. The authors have not found the fountain of youth, and there is nothing new in the book, but there is something very refreshing about being reminded of some pretty basic things now and then. 1) Set a timer for 15 minutes when you feel like you need to clean. You can manage a lot in that time, and when it beeps, you are done. 2) There is nothing wrong with TV for your kids, if you are doing something productive while sitting them in front of it (does blogging count?) So, use that time to get dressed and wash your face and maybe even a little lipstick, and the day will start better! I don’t have a #3 yet as I just flipped through the table of contents. Stay tuned!
