I love magazines. All kinds – I always have. However, my tastes have changed over the years. Here, I chronicle how my magazine tastes have evolved from teeny-bopper to adult.
10. Teen – Where else could I learn to put on blue eyeliner or pearlescent fuschia lip gloss? Or properly tight-rolling your pants and which version of Aqua-net hairspray was best for your hair height.
9. Tiger Beat – The New Kids on the Block pictures didn’t just appear on my walls!
8. Sassy – The magazine for the non-conforming teen…so you can all be different, but in the same, cool way. Be yourself…be like us!
7. Cosmopolitan – Because we thought we were cool and stylish in college, with our baseball caps and sweats and makeup-less faces.
6. People (and its less reputable cousin, US Weekly) – Never goes out of style
5. Maxim – Joe subscribed, and we fought over it when it arrived. Great articles and funny jokes.
4. Self – More realistic beauty magazine for those of us aging gracefully, yet whining about it.
3. Real Simple – Less beauty, more cooking and organizing.
2. Parenting – Because there is comfort in reading the made up “My kid says the funniest things” over and over again.
1. Good Housekeeping – Yep. I have hit rock bottom on the magazine rack. I buy Good Housekeeping and its sister Family Circle. Recipes, tips, product reviews…it’s a pretty relevant magazine for a mom. I’m a little ashamed and a little more organized because of it…
