Watch your kids. Please.

by LZ on June 10, 2009

Dear Mom at Kids Playland:

I get it. You brought your 4 children to play today, and you have your hands full. Why are 3 of your boys playing in the toddler room (when they are way too old and tall for it) and being way too rough, while you have your back turned? How did this last for an hour?

And then why, do you think it’s ok to snap at me for telling your kids that the 3 of them shouldn’t stand on top of the 6 foot tall flimsy plastic clubhouse that looks like it’s about to break with 2 toddlers inside?

Please, by all means, go out with your kids. Meet up with a friend. Drink your coffee. It does not excuse you from paying attention to them. Being confined does not mean they are safe or behaving.

Amen to that. I can’t stand when parents don’t watch their kids!

You know I agree w/ you 100%… I feel like other parents feel like I’m hovering whenever I take C anywhere like that. It amazes me how many parents do not watch their kids at all. I try to teach her to go up and down the slide the proper way while their kids are climbing up the wrong way, lying across the slide, etc. You try to teach your kids some manners and how to play nicely w/ others, but there are so many bad examples out there — it would just be nice if other parents can keep an eye on their kids. On more than one occasion, kids have asked me to help them or play w/ them at these types of places — maybe if their parents paid them some attention, they wouldn’t have to ask a stranger!!!! Good for you for saying something to the kids – what did the parents say to you???

Funny how it’s always the moms of the little monsters who feel offended if you cover for their lack of parenting ;-)

Oh, I so could have written this letter…. just change a few of the details to “YMCA play room” and the parents weren’t even in the room with them.

I’m really amazed at what some parents see as appropriate behaviour. “Well, it ain’t like he’s killin’ nobody! Jeez!”

Yet, lady. Yet.
