Sleeping. Again. It’s always about sleeping.

Freakin’ A. Seriously. I have gone on and on about M and her sleep habits. I could continue to go on and on. And I will.

Super Daddy finally took it upon himself to get her to stay in her own bed, and then, to do the impossible…fall asleep in her bed on her own. It worked…for a while.

We had some trade offs. Sleeping in her own bed means she is waking up earlier. Ok…a bit earlier, I can deal with. She used to wake up at 7:00am. It slowly got earlier and earlier until she started coming in at 5:00. Yes, 5AM. I don’t wake up in the 5′s. I refuse to.

To make it worse, she knows to give us a guilt trip.

Us: “M, you need to go back to bed”
M: “But I’m very hungry and need breakfast.”
Us: “No, you don’t, it’s very early”
M: “But, I have a grumbling belly because it’s so hungry.”

Ugggh. I know she doesn’t, but what if she really was hungry one time? I trudge downstairs to get her something.

Last night, she came into our room at 2:30am. Still scared the crap out of me by tapping (ie smacking) me in the middle of a deep sleep. The trouble this time? “My shade is down and I need the light.” Ok, this one is valid. She likes her blind up so she can see the moon if she wakes at night. I put it up and tucked her in.

Fast forward to this morning. I woke up to J asking me why I let her in bed with us. Uh, I didn’t…did you? I opened my eyes, and sure enough, there she was. I got up, got Abs out of bed and came downstairs. M didn’t wander down until almost 8:30. Yes, that’s right, 8:30am. After going to bed at 7:00pm.

Who in their right mind can be so strong? You have to be superhuman to continue to try keeping her in bed, and then getting up at the crack of dawn when we could be sleeping until 8:00 every morning. M sleeps later, Abs sleeps later with her out of the room, Mom sleeps later, Dad sleeps later. Who loses here? No one!!

See… I have the opposite problem. I have to sleep with the shades (shutters in my case) DOWN. I’m afraid some crazy banshee will start screaming outside my window. Or some creepy thing will look at me while I’m asleep. I get the light from my television. Which, in turn, wakes me up all night.

Hence – why I don’t sleep. I may as well just have kids already.

I have bribed and threatened my child regarding sleep. Do whatever you need to is my point. You need to function.
