Our dryer just broke. Not working at all. We don’t have the choice to hang things outside, so off to the laundromat we go! With 2 small kids with a combined attention span of 15 seconds, I opted for the wash, dry and fold. Drop off and come back a few hours later to clean, fresh, neatly folded clothes. Yay!
But wait…what’s that sign? Wireless internet access? At the laundromat? Open 24 hours. Hmmm. I want to come back tonight with the last load of clothes, my laptop, and NO ONE else! I would truly love that.
It got me thinking. I’ve had this same thought about some other things lately…
The dentist. Eyebrow, or worse, bikini waxing. Having blood drawn. A doctor’s appointment. The DMV. Hair coloring. I have had to do all of those things recently. The wait? Awesome. Why? My kids are at home with someone else, and I can just sit there. When they say, “Mrs. Z, we’re running a bit behind, I’m sorry for your wait” I don’t think anyone expects the look of joy that crosses my face.
It is a twisted path that has brought me from enjoying a facial, a massage, a pedicure, and seeing those things as luxuries, to now, almost looking forward to getting my teeth drilled, my hair ripped off, being poked with a needle. Oh, and don’t forget grocery shopping, formerly my least favorite chore. Is it just me? I’m guessing yes.

Haha… funny! I know what you mean, though. Even when I am stuck in traffic on my way home from work, I savour those quiet moments sometimes!
Oh my gosh, I have never looked forward to going to any of those places before, always been in a hurry to get somewhere else. But now? I love traffic. I love waiting. I love being alone! LOL!
Amazing the things we do for ‘alone’ time.
I think my husband is slooowly beginning to understand. Now, when I disappear after he walks in the door, he doesn’t complain as much.
Grocery shopping sans kids is some serious “me time” in my books. Want ot know what else is kind of sad? My husband and I went on a date today… to spend hours at the US embassy (here in Ottawa, ON), applying for our youngest’s passport. So lame.
(It was fun though.)
I know, it’s kinda sad. I have the misfortune of having to get blood drawn often and I loathe the waiting, but at least I get to read my entire magazine from cover to cover without being interrupted repeatedly. So, sad, but nice:) Thanks for stopping by my place…come back any time.
That’s so funny. This week, I got stuck waiting for a business dinner (guy was lost) for 45 minutes and about an hour to get my car inspected (and$110 worth of repairs to get it up to snuff) AND I got my teeth drilled and enjoyed every second of it. At this rate, I might someday finish reading the same paperback I’ve been toting around since I was preggo w/#1.
Oh, man. Now I’m hoping my washer breaks. And I don’t even know if the local laundromat has WiFi. If not, I’d just drive around until I find one that does. You know it
