Weekends are just not the same…

by LZ on July 13, 2009

I’ve been a stay at home mom almost since the beginning. I went back to work for a month after my leave was up with M, and it just didn’t work for me. I go back and forth in my own mind about whether I miss it or not, and the truth is, I really don’t miss most aspects of working. Just some…

I would love to use my brain for some non-kid things a bit more often, interact with other adults and talk about things other than poop/illnesses, have lunch by myself, pee alone, etc. Not meaning for this to turn into another working vs. staying at home post (like this one), I’ll get to the point. What I truly miss the most is looking forward to the weekend like I used to. When I was working, even the brief time that I did so after becoming a Mom, I relished the idea that my week was broken up. I worked 5 days, I was a full-time Mom for 2. By no means was this easier, but the week was far from routine. Weekends were different than weekdays.

Saturday and Sunday no longer feel like a break to me. They are an extension of my work week. I do the same thing Monday through Sunday. Of course, Joe is home, and I wait for that all week, but the reality is, Saturday might as well be Tuesday in my book (except TV options aren’t as good!) as I do the same things 7 days a week. I don’t stay up later, because I still get up, make breakfast, get dressed, play. Repeat as necessary.

The one exception is Friday night. Though I’m beat and Joe is, too, there is something about Friday night that just feels great. I guess because it’s the part of the week that is furthest away from the start of his work week. But, sadly, in the back of my mind, I’m already thinking about getting up early the next day!

I know exactly how you feel. My husband still doesn’t get it.
