Not Everyone is Meant to Teach…

This Summer is the first Summer that M wasn’t in any sort of daycare or school program. Nothing organized. It’s also the first Summer that Abs was really walking around and able to have fun and play like the toddler she is. It also rained for a month straight. Options were limited.

I decided to enroll the girls in our local {Insert fancy kids store name here} Play & Music program. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but decided to give it a chance, in lieu of trying to beat the crowds at the local indoor play areas. I definitely should have taken them up on the offer for the free trial class. Oh well…live and learn.

Things start out fine. Some free play, climbing on the safe, soft, low kiddie structures was great. Running around in the big open area? Really, really, great. I could get used to this. Then the craziest teacher to ever teach a class started barking orders at the kids all while singing the company’s theme song…

“Find me a circle”

“Now find me a triangle”

“Where’s Gymbo?” Um…my 2 year old is still looking for that circle…

“Ok everyone, over here…throw the bean bags in the square box!” Still working on that circle, lady.

“Now, did you see what we have for sale in the front lobby?”

“Now, here’s Gymbo again! Give him a kiss” Right…all kids like clowns with a crazy lady’s hand up his a$$. Very welcoming.

“Free play!” Phew…

So we relaxed, the girls played more, and the slower, quieter, pace was so nice…until she started again…

“Ok, find me a circle” Listen lady, she’s 2. Even if she knew what a circle was, she can’t find it that quickly and not when she’s bullied into it! And, we’re still working on the last damn circle.

“Here come the bubbles” Ok…they like bubbles. This is good.

“Stomp on the bubbles! Slap the with your hand! Stomp them with your feet!” Crazy lady, there are infants on the floor where you are blowing these bubbles. Use your brain…and stop yelling at my kids!!!

We went twice. Then I canceled our membership. Scary, scary lady…But, I did buy some bubbles on the way out…they were seriously indestructible. Even with all that stomping and smacking and stabbing and bludgeoning.

ugh….I know which program you are referring to. Awful.
The girl who ran the one I went to, on the first day went around the circle of moms/kids and felt the need to remark on which parent the child looked like. When she got to me she said “your son must look like his daddy because he doesnt look like you”.

Dumbass chick……he’s adopted. I came out and said “that would be because he’s adopted” You’d think she’d stop after that, but she kept right on with the rest of the circle. Dumbass.

Met some great women from there that I am still friends with, but it was pretty pointless for my 8 month old son.

But did they like the ride on the parachute? The bubbles are pretty cool. I wish I could duplicate that at home. :)

My oldest loved the parachute, and we did buy one (not too fun with 3 people!!) the youngest was terrified of it…especially since the teacher in question sent her running under it and then lowered it, trapping her. Complete freak out, as you can imagine!
