You want to cut THIS??? An Ode to Awesome Hair.

by LZ on August 6, 2009

Dear J:

Leave the girls’ hair to me. Under no circumstance is it ok to cut this hair. Look at her! So, it’s a bit wild, and sometimes she looks like Kramer, and sometimes things get lost in there…but look at that cute hair! Beside, what can you do with it? Do you know what’s worse than crazy, out of control curls? Crazy, out of control curls with bangs.

I asked my hairdresser for advice, and she was really helpful. She said after I condition (wait…I’m supposed to condition a 2 year old’s hair? Yes, she informed me, the leave-in spray detangler is not enough. Ok. That will go over well with her) I need to use a diffuser. A diffuser…on a squirmy kid who barely sits still for the combing. Great idea. Thanks. I wouldn’t even sit still for a diffuser.

I think there's a bird in there.

I think there's a bird in there.

She looks like Elvis, and Elvis is cool.

She looks like Elvis, and Elvis is cool.

Ok, this isn't so crazy...

Ok, this isn't so crazy...

I guess I see what you're saying, but keep those scissors away from her!

I think our daughters have the same hair. My little one`s hair looks so cute the minute its washed. Then throughout the day it gets shorter and curlier, and by end of the day she has a tangled afro. I would never cut bangs on her because its so curly, and I wouldn`t even attempt the conditioner – she would never sit still for that long.

I love it! Don’t you dare cut it! It has style and attitude. I don’t think I even know what a diffuser is. Is it a hairdryer? That’s just wrong.

Beautiful curls!

But, your post makes me wonder, what is it with people wanting/thinking little girls HAVE to have bangs? My daughter was born with a head full of hair and we have never cut it. At 2, it’s almost down to her shoulder blades. My mom has been bugging me, pestering me, trying to bribe me, to cut her hair, and give her a kiddie mullet. My mom refers to it as the typical little girl hair cut and keeps telling me that every little girl has to have one. The thought of a HUGE swath of bangs that go from ear to ear on my darling daughter gives me nightmares and horrid 80′s flashbacks. I just keep telling my mom, that is at least one of the childhood milestone my kid will not be participating in.

Crazy hair rules and I’m jealous. Annie might have enough hair for a little clip by Christmas. We probably won’t have to think about cutting it until kindergarten at least.

OMG, she is adorable!!! I absolutel love the hair and wouldn’t cut it. My cousin has a little girl with the crazy curls. You should her in the morning, I love, love. love it!!! Remember bangs are only for people that want to maintain them on a very regular basis.

Aw, her hair is adorable and it kind of does look like Kramers hair, but then again Kramers hair is really cool!

Those curls are devastating. Funny to read this on the eve of my son’s next haircut (ummm, I mean, professional trim — I tried once and found out I really mess it up if I do it myself). I keep fighting the urge/cultural dictum to cut it all off. Loving how he’s got a little London rocker look going on. I’m sure as soon as he can figure out an opinion on the subject it will be out of my hands.

Oh so many beautiful curls! If you cut it, save a few of the curls and laminate them with her name and date. It is great as a bookmark and a fond memory.

Stopping by with a little bloggie love tonight!

Do not cut her hair! Your hair dresser is right. Conditioner is a must for curly hair. I never bother with the blowdryer. The girls air-dry. Try googling “hair blogs”. There are lots of them w/ advice on curly hair, products, and kids hair.
