If it Makes Me a Monster, well…Arrrggh!!

Good morning, September!! Welcome back!

This is the first Summer that M has not been in daycare/preschool, and it was a long one. I love that little girl more than you know, but I need a break! We don’t have a regular sitter, and she wasn’t enrolled in any camp or similar programs this year. You know what that means? It was a just me. All mom, all the time. My fault? Sure. I could have arranged for a babysitter occasionally, I could have asked Gram and Gramp to take over for a bit so I could get out on my own. I didn’t. Maybe that’s why I CAN NOT WAIT FOR SCHOOL TO START!

I feel like I’m in the minority here, and I kind of feel bad about it. No, there’s not enough guilt for me to want Summer vacation to last longer, but it is causing me to wonder if I’m missing some sort of ‘mom chip’ that requires me to be sad to send my daughter off to school. Yes, it is a bit emotional as this is her last year of pre-school before Kindergarten. That part, I am a bit weepy about. It’s a milestone, she’s getting older. It’s a fact, and I will deal with it bravely (at least in public!)

Will I send her off to school and come home to cry? I hope not, for Abs’ sake…Will I scoop her up when she gets home and hug her like she’s been gone a week? Absolutely. Will I make the most of the few hours a day that it’s just Abs and me? Yes…she has never had one on one time with me, and deserves it. Will I hope that she might take a few early naps so I have some alone time? Hell, yeah!

I’m pleasantly surprised at how much easier the Summer was than I expected. I can’t believe it’s September already. The last 3 months didn’t feel as long as I expected (even with an entire month of rain), but I get the feeling that waiting until next week is going to feel like a year…

You are not in the minority LZ…we have ALL been eagerly anticipating today, as bittersweet as it may be. Enjoy your time with Abs, I know Nina will miss her big bro but she’ll appreciate the one on one time also.

Your not alone. Have you seen the Office Depot commercial where the dad is dancing up & down the aisles with the song, “Its the most wonderful time of the year.”
lol That was me. I love having my kids home; but I love school time.
So don’t feel guilty. You are among millions that sigh a huge sigh of relief when that cute yellow school bus stops in front of your house.

I didn’t enroll either of my boys in anything til they were 4 & it was preschool 3 morns only a week…I had my moments, good & BAD with them, but was not ready to part with either of them til then. This year, the leading up to the 1st day away for both, was especially rough for me, I shed more tears before school actually started than the day of….thought it would be more emotional, but my oldest has no problem leaving me for his friends, it’s me that has a problem with him leaving me! The youngest didn’t cling to my leg as we all expected on his 1st day of pre-school, I was happy to walk out & leave him…1st time he has EVER been left with someone other than my hubby or I….my weakest part? The letter that Bens 1st grade teacher wrote to us moms, not be read until AFTER the kids were at school…I was bawling my eyes out, in a good way…..

Yes, we all need a break. You shouldn’t even feel guilty about it. :)

And enjoy your special Abs time.
