Top Ten Thursday: Buh-Bye Summer…

Top Ten Thursday Button

In the past, Summer could not get here fast enough, and it always left too soon. When I was a student, of course, I looked forward to 3 months of relaxation, hanging at home with my friends, and no real responsibilities. Even later, once I started working, I still wanted those Summer weekends to chill at the beach, my backyard, or anywhere else the sun was shining. Not so much anymore.

It’s not that I don’t love Summer, but Fall is sooo much better. Here’s why:

10. Are you ready for some football? I love the Patriots, and love that I have games to look forward to every Sunday. Not to mention, the start of football season means the start of crock-pot Sundays.

9. The lazy days of Summer are a myth! There is nothing lazy about Summer. The weather is nice, and people feel obligated to be on-the-go. What about just hanging out? Why do we always need to go somewhere?

8. People are finally home. Try getting together with friends on Summer weekends. It’s tough…vacations, plans, cookouts, parties. No one is ever around. See #9. It’s true!

7. Gingerbread lattes and Pumpkin Spice coffee. I’m sure you can get these year round, but they wouldn’t taste right in July. Let’s not forget hot chocolate and soup, too.

6. TV. I’m so tired of Summer shows…I NEED to know if Pam on The Office is pregnant, or what’s next for Barney Stinson.

5. The smell of wood burning stoves and fireplaces. In the house, in the air outside, it doesn’t matter. Burning a pile of leaves in your yard? Thank you! Signed, your neighbor.

4. Socks and shoes, I’ve missed you! No need for regular pedicures or worrying about hiding my feet from sandals and flip-flops.

3. Back to school. I am counting the minutes. I was feeling a little guilty about my level of enthusiasm. Not anymore. I am now putting those emotions toward counting the minutes…

2. Sunblock. I freakin’ hate sunblock. Because the girls and I are whiter than pale, we need sunblock all day, every day. The thought of getting both girls properly greased up stresses me out beyond belief. M is easier – spray and go. Trying spraying that stuff on Abs and she swells up like crazy. Add squirmy toddler-ish behavior, and staying indoors all day sounds better. Oh, and no matter what, I always end up burned with a kid handprint somewhere on my body.

1. I hate summer clothes. Tank tops and short-sleeves, be gone! Don’t even get me started about bathing suits. I don’t recall wearing one once this season. Fine by me. Bring me a sweater and jeans any day…

Now you have me all excited for the fall!! certainly love the summer & the beach but I am starting to really appreciate the fall much more as I get older – such nice weather for the kids to be outside.

Great List!!! I LOVE fall!! It is my favorite time of the year – and for MOST of the reasons you listed!

The only thing that I don’t like, is that it is getting darker earlier and lighter later. The darker earlier is cutting into your outside playtime during the week. Ugh!

I just popped over from Sara’s blog! It sounds like we are from the same neck of the woods! I will be glad to be done with sunblock and cookouts myself. My hubby wanted to have one last one this weekend and I vetoed that right quick! .And don’t even get me started on summer clothes whenyou are 7 months pregnant. NOT FUN!! Can’t wait for some long sleeved coziness (I know that is not a word but should be) to begin!

I like the idea of fall. But then just as I’m waxing nostalgic about it…BAM – frickin’ winter hits. So to me, I think Mother Nature is pretty damn smart to make fall so beautiful to distract us from all that snow and cold sneaking right up on us. It does bring the Patriots, that is true, and hopefully a Sox World Series. But I’m not looking forward to spending 15 minutes putting gear on just to go outside to get the paper – so I’d like to stretch my summer out as long as possible thank you very much.

what a great list. I pretty much have to agree with all of it except the summer clothes. I love my capris. I wish I could wear them year round. I would if I thought they went with socks and sneakers, which they so don’t in my book. *LOL* Except for the bathing suit. UGH!!

Yes! I love fall too. I agree with you about summer not being lazy at all – if anything I find I’m just as busy but sweatier! Bring on the gingerbread lattes and cozy sweaters. Great post.

Hey. I didn’t know you were a Patriots fan. We are too (okay mostly my hubby, but I always route for them even tho’ I’m not into football). I’ll miss Summer. I’m not a fall person, but am trying to not hate it so much.

I had to link up to this post (although it was the first time I did something like this, hope I did it right…). I agree, summer is completely overrated and I *HEART* your #5 on this list. I can’t wait for that to start.

PS: I also read your putt-putt entry from back in July. It was hilarious! I am exactly the same way. Especially about air hockey.
