I took a good, long look at myself. Yesterday, on Twitter, I had the following conversation:
@MaggieDammit (of Okay, Fine, Dammit) said:
“Joggers are such show-offs”
To which I replied:
@MaggieDammit totally. with their “I’m interested in my overall health and don’t let weather stand in my way’ attitude. What gives?
@MyMessyParadise Seriously. Especially in Wisconsin, where NOBODY jogs. It’s November! Put on your parka for pete’s sake!
@MaggieDammit I just saw a really old lady ‘jogging’ and it made me feel super lazy. So I decided she was jogging to hurt my feelings.
@MyMessyParadise She was. I’m sure of it. What an evil woman, that old lady jogger. I hate her.
Have I sunk this low that I now dislike people who exercise? That I think they are bundling up in the cold with their 75 year old bodies, not paying any attention to me, yet somehow sending me the signal that they know how sedentary my life has become? That they know how much time I spend exercising daily (zero minutes, if you’re wondering) and laugh behind my back?
Every day when I drive M to school, I see the same woman with a pink, double jogging stroller. She always has a little baby in there, wearing a hat, a cute blanket, looking happy as can be. Sometimes there is a sibling on the other side, sometimes not. Today, I saw the double stroller parked outside of school. Then I saw mom come out of school, holding the cute little baby, with the cute hat and blanket. She put her in the stroller and jogged away.
This woman gets up every day, gets everyone bundled and walks her oldest to school. She finds a way to fit it into her day. I can’t walk M to school an account of the busy route we’d have to take, but she really made me think. Am I really so busy that I can’t squeeze in 18 minutes a day to do the 30 Day Shred? No. I’m not. How about even easier and more fun? I could take our jogger (insert my hysterical laughter and Joe’s disapproving stare about me owning/purchasing a good jogging stroller) to school, bring M inside and then take Abs for a nice walk from the parking lot. It just needs to be a priority. Or enjoyable. Neither is true for me.
There is always an excuse. I don’t have cool, fit mom, jogging outfits. I don’t want Abs in the gym daycare (yes, laugh again. I pay for a gym) during flu season. I want that extra 30 minutes of sleep each morning.
In all seriousness, I really need to shape up. If not for my a$$, then for my health. I’m getting up in years and too smart to take my health for granted. I don’t want an eye opener in the form of a health scare or other problem that could have easily been avoided by moving my feet for a few minutes a day.
Cue the Rocky music. I’m going to do it. Starting Monday.
Jogging stroller? Check. Cute hat for Abs? Check. Stretcher for me when I finish my jog? Anyone? ANYONE?

Get out there and start jogging! You can do it! Okay I have to admit I’m a jogger, but I stopped a month ago when it started getting colder and darker in the evening. My jogging route is through a park and the thought of jogging there alone just freaks me out. I too really need to find some other form of exercise – especially with Christmas coming. I’m thinking of getting an exercise DVD and some weights to do at home. Good luck with it!

We’re just lazy. It’s pretty cut and dry. Everyone has time for some exercise. Monday for me too!

You could have written this post about me. I have been using that “I’m going to start tomorrow” excuse for months and again tonight, I’m swearing that tomorrow is going to be that magic day when the lightbulb finally lights up. I’m cheering for you!

I can’t speak for all of us, but I have zero ill feelings toward people who don’t run or exercise. Running is something that relaxes me, makes me feel proud of myself, and pumps enough oxygen to my brain to help me get through the day. Everybody’s got their own thing; it doesn’t have to be working out. But if you want to do it for health, get some good tunes and try to enjoy!

Hmmm. Exercising for enjoyment and relaxation. Mentally, I get it, but thinking about exercising stresses me out!
And I totally think the old lady knew I had 3 Reese’s with my lunch.
Seriously – so jealous that you like to workout. I really wish I did. Who knows? Maybe if I force it for a while it will become an enjoyable habit. At least I hope it does!
Kudos to good health! Being fit helps us resist all sorts of diseases. Eye of the tiger!
I can’t do it… I am so not motivated and I’m so tired in the morning and I have barely enough time to get myself ready and the kids before I have to leave for work! I SHOULD work out on my lunch breaks though, but I don’t! And yes, I do have that one gorgeous perfect size 6 neighbour who jogs every morning… hmm… I wonder why she has such a great figure? Good luck to you!

A little bit of exercise never hurt anyone! Actually, Monday will be a great day to get started. Looking forward to seeing how your Monday goes. I’m enjoying your blog, as well!

haha nice convo. I’m just too lazy to go jogging. I’m even too lazy to ride my stationary bike that is now an eye sore in my living room… ya know though, I do feel so much better when I’m exercising. Good Luck!

No matter how much I exercise I will never be one of those people who enjoy it. To me it is a necessary evil and probably always will be. I am actually excited to get back to work after this pregnancy though because my hubby and I were looking through pictures from about 5 years ago and he said, “You were so hot!”. Operative word and pretty much the only one I heard, was WERE. I need to get my pre-babies body back and I think I can do it, I will just have to be more disciplined about what I eat and keeping up with the gym. I need a trainer to kick my butt. I will slack off if I’m doing it by myself but if someone is standing over me cracking a whip, I just might be able to pull it off! Ha!

HAAAAAAA!
ha.
I was joking.
Sort of.
We should both be jogging, right?
Last year I did pretty well. This year I suck.
As soon as I get over this flippin’ month-long flu/cough thing, I’m sure I’ll get back out there.
