Friday the 13th

in Me, Monsters

triskaidekaphobia: [tris-kahy-dek-uh-foh-bee-uh, tris-kuh-] n. An abnormal fear of the number 13.

I’m extremely superstitious. I always have been. Nothing bothers me more than 13. There is absolutely no good reason for it. When I read, I refuse to put my book down if I’m on chapter 13, 26, 39, etc. (and yes, I will count all the way to the end of the book. I’m excellent at dividing by 13.)

I am uneasy if I’m in room 13 in any building, at a house numbered 13, and would never, EVER, take a flight with 13 in it.

The most ridiculous incident?

I was schedule to be induced with my youngest daughter on the 13th. I was aware that my OB wanted to induce and was fine with it. Until she informed me of the only date that would work for her. You guessed it. The 13th. The choice between being in the hospital, in labor, on the 13th or taking the chance of another ridiculously fast birth, possibly in my car or bathtub was actually a tough decision to make. In the end, logic won out, but not wothout considerable stress and anguish.

The day came. I couldn’t get into L&D until after 8pm. Good, I thought. She’ll probably be born tomorrow. No such luck. Within a couple hours of starting the process, I was ready to go. No!!!! It can’t be! I don’t feel ready. Ouch! Ok, I’m ready.

My OB, the most wonderful doctor in the world, helped me hold off a bit, knowing I was willing to prolong labor to avoid a scary birthday. She was born on the 14th. At exactly midnight.

Dodged a bullet there. And yes…I know it’s completely ridiculous. I just can’t help it.

And, yet…You watch Ghost Hunters?

If you makes you feel any better…I like things to be even numbers. Things need to be able to be neatly divisible by 2. It just seems neater, cleaner – more round. I am sure you understand.

I went into labor on June 12th with Natey but he ended up being born at 2am on the 13th. :o ) At least it was a Wednesday and not a Friday, right?? Let’s just hope I don’t go into labor today and have ANOTHER 13th baby!

As a kid I always used to think that odd numbers were evil & even were good. I still find myself trying to do more even than odd. So, nope, not thinking you’re ridiculous @ all!

I’m not superstitious at all, except when I say knock on wood (does that count?) I find this really fascinating to be honest. I love that your doctor helped you get to the 14th – that is awesome.

My son was born on the 13th. I never really thought about it before. I guess I don’t have that fear.
