Home for the holidays! Oh, the joy!
9 years ago, Joe and I celebrated our first Christmas together. We had been dating for 6 months, and it was the first big family event that he would attend.
We started off at my Aunt’s house. My Aunt makes strong drinks. My mom had several. So did everyone else. Everyone else except us, it seems. We were heading out of town on a trip to Florida the day after Christmas, but also to NY to be with Joe’s parents later on Christmas Eve. My Grandmother asked me when we were leaving. Not sure if she meant to NY or to Florida, I asked her, “Leave for what?” She got real close and whispered yelled, “Oh, no! Are you going to Florida with some other guy?” No, Gram. Going with Joe, but thanks. Shortly after that, she fell over in slow motion and lay on the floor like a turtle on its back. I laughed so hard I cried. She wasn’t hurt. It was very, very funny.
On the drive to our next destination, we were following my parents. They pulled over to the side of the road. Were they lost? We’ve only done this trip from one Aunt’s house to another a million times. Mom got out of the car and puked on the side of the road. Fun.
Joe kept coming back for more family parties. I knew he was a keeper.

Puking on the side of the road, nice! Yeah, after that I would say he’s a keeper, too.
