I saw New Moon this morning. First off, let me say that I got out with my good friend Dani, was kidless for 3+ hours. I could have watched static for 2 hours and enjoyed myself. So I put on my sparkly ‘Twilight MILF’ t-shirt and headed to the theater*
*No. I don’t own such a shirt. If I did, I would never wear it in public. Probably.
I am a big Twilight fan. I love the books, I liked the first movie, and I could not wait for New Moon. I considered going to a midnight show, but am far too dependent on sleep and had to wait until this morning. I worried that it would be packed, maybe even sold out. It wasn’t. It was pretty funny to see other Moms in the same boat as us. Me, getting a sitter to see a movie without Joe, Dani taking a day off from work. There were also lots of kids playing hookie from school – with their Moms. Cute.
New Moon was my least favorite book of the series (until the 2nd half of Breaking Dawn. Gag.) I liked the love story of Twilight, because the vampire stuff was secondary. I’m just not that into vampires and other monsters. In Twilight, it just wasn’t as much a part of the story.
In New Moon, they introduce the wolves. Fine. Edward is still there. I can deal. Oh what? He’s in less than half of the movie? Hmmm. His makeup looks ridiculous? Okay. I can still deal. He could paint his face like a clown and it wouldn’t bother me too much.
What does bother me, and I have to thank Kevin (you know who you are!) for pointing it out. Since when do vampires have superhuman skills? The mind reading, the seeing the future? I could deal with those in the first movie. In New Moon? Since when do vampires suddenly fight like they’re in the Matrix? Now that I write this, the tree climbing from Twilight is really bugging me.
I wasn’t expecting much. I was just expecting a simple screen version of the book. I got that. Am I disappointed? No. Not at all. The acting was not great, Edward’s overly romantic way of talking to Bella was getting on my nerves, but I enjoyed it. It was what I expected, and that is good enough for me. Will I own it? Absolutely. There is a chance I’ll go see it again at the movies, too. But, did I love it? No, I did not, but I didn’t expect that I would.
I will be counting down until Eclipse, and will be just as excited. None of the magic has faded.
I have never understood Team Jacob…until now. Is that illegal?

From your title, I thought you weren’t gonna like it! So I guess you liked it but didn’t love it. I can accept that.

What?!? You guys went without me?? Not that I could have taken the day off of work since the kids were already sick this week but I am so bummed you guys saw it today!
Maybe I’ll have to drag someone else to it now. Or make you see it again!
I’ll go again! Come on up. Any day! I couldn’t miss going the first day! I hope Kevin likes his shout-out…
LOL Great review.

The Twilight series reminds me of Opera. Either you love it or you hate it.
As I tweeted earlier; I’ll be waiting for the DVD. I have the attention span of a 3 yr old. Movie theaters & me don;t mesh well.
Jacob IS hawt. And I feel vaguely dirty every time I think that.

Did you like Bella’s littler Cougar reference. How fitting for us moms in the audience! lol
I thought it was just me! That tree climbing in Twilight was irritatingly dumb. I suppose it just didn’t translate for me. And – don’t throw tomatoes at me – I thought Twilight was cuh-hor-nee! I hate when I read books and then the movie doesn’t live up to it! Oh well. I’m going to see it next week, and my only hope is that the makeup will be waaaay better in this one…

Hi Lynette,
Shari Monnes told me to check out your blog… Great stuff! Very funny. I’m in the CMC too, but I don’t think we’ve ever met. I didn’t read the Twilight books yet. Hopefully Wendy Wood will let me borrow her set!

Funny – I am already fan of your page. I think I saw it on other CMC moms pages and checked it out. Good stuff! I’m always looking for guest posters here, if you are ever interested!
Thanks for an honest review. The movies will never hold the sparkle of the book, but it is fun to see them. I agree, you dont expect it to be amazing, but good to see.

Hey! So, as you know, I’m a new Twilight fan… my obsession is like, at a peak right now! So I saw Twilight on TV, and loved it, like, 2 weeks ago? Then I bought all the books… LOVED reading Twilight and New Moon… am now almost finished Eclipse… and I look forward to Breaking Dawn, even though I already know that Bella and Edward have a like, human/vampire baby… other than that I don’t know much… but that can’t be bad, can it? CAN IT? Please tell me I’ll like it!
As for New Moon, the MOVIE – I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I loved it even more, almost, than Twilight! I thought the Director did a great job with this movie! I thought Bella/Kristin Stewart did a great job – I think her acting is great, actually – she’s so real! Looking at and hearing Edward/Jacob was great, too – they’re both so delish!!! Lucky Bella, seriously!! LOVED New Moon, and can’t wait to see Eclipse in June!

It’s not bad. I rushed through the final 3 books in one weekend. I was a woman obsessed. Breaking Dawn just gets busy – lots of new characters and lots of details. I’ve heard they are breaking it up into 2 movies because of that.
I plan to read Eclipse and BD again, paying closer attention, and am convinced I will love them more the second time around.
I thought Kristen Stewart did a fantastic job in New Moon – Alice Cullen, not so much. There had been talk a while back about replacing Jacob, but I thought he was great. Really carried it.
I’m just as excited for Eclipse – and beware, I suffered from major withdrawal once the books (and the manuscript on the author’s website for Midnight sun) were done.
