The Great Interview Experiment

I participated in this interview, courtesy of Neil at Citizen of the Month. (I was interviewed by Michele at Voix de Michele – check it out!)

I was lucky enough to chat with Karen at If Mama ain’t Happy. Here’s what I asked, and what she had to say:

1) I love to knit, too. What have you made that you are most proud of? What have you made for someone else that you were so happy to give?
I’m very critical of my own knitting. I always focus on the flaws, and I’m convinced that it looks bad. I was really happy with a Raggedy Ann doll that I made for my cousin’s daughter- I loved Raggedy Ann when I was little, and wanted to pass that along. The baby gifts are probably the ones that make me most giddy.

2) Is there a movie that is just so bad, so awful, but you can’t look away?
There is a movie I saw in high school called “Nice Girls Don’t Explode” that is so absurd, yet so exceedingly entertaining. It’s so bad that even the MST3K crew would just be slack-jawed and speechless from the ridiculousness.

3) 3 kids. We go back and forth about wanting a 3rd. I thought the transition from 1 to 2 was so difficult. It took me a year to feel like myself again. Which transition was the most difficult for you?
Surprisingly, the transition wasn’t as tough when Lil Joe was born. I’d done the “new baby” thing, the “help the older sib to adjust” thing and the “recover from surgery while psychotic from not sleeping” thing. I took longer to recover physically and hormonally, but I had the parenting part pretty much on track. By the time I had three kids, I had come to terms with how well kids can bounce back from the mistakes I make trying to be a decent parent.

4) What makes you a good parent? What do you think your kids will remember fondly from their child hood? Anything you hope they forget?
I don’t often feel like a good mother, but I think my kids actually appreciate that I admit how many mistakes I make. They cringe at what a dork I am, but I also make them laugh. It may be weird to have a dance party in the living room, and I may be warping their brains with 80s music, but I think they will remember it fondly. I hope the forgive and forget how many times I miss fun events because of work or other obligations- Hubby is home with them every summer while school is out, and the do lots of fun stuff while I’m at the office.

5) Is there any blog topic you want to write about, but have not been able to find the words?Any topic you refuse to touch?
I can’t think of any topics I refuse to write about. I avoid politics, but partly because I don’t sound very smart when I try to explain some of my views and why I hold those views.

6) Your questions for Tatiana were so good, I have to steal one. What is your top choice for a ‘dead before its time’ TV show?
My favorite short-lived show is “Sports Night.”. It was well written and well acted, but only lasted 2 seasons (partly because ABC yanked it all over the schedule, I think, so it was hard to build a viewer base). I didn’t watch so many of the shows that are usually named in the “dead before their time” category.

7) What question do you wish I asked you? What would be your answer?
That question is the toughest one to answer! I didn’t set any expectations for questions, so you couldn’t neglect to ask what I want to answer…maybe you could ask me what Paypal address people should use if they want to contribute to the “cute shoes” fund!
