Payback is a bitch…and gross…and awesome

by LZ on December 11, 2009

Bed time in my house is my most focused hour of the day. I go through the same motions every night, follow the same routine, and usually get the girls to bed without incident.

When I bring the girls upstairs, I am all business. The girls get it. When we put on pjs, it’s time to calm down. It never fails, though, if Joe gets home while I’m putting the girls to bed, they get all riled up. Honestly, he does nothing to instigate it – they are just happy to see him. But…he doesn’t exactly try to calm them down either. They’ll play, they’ll go a bit crazy, but it could be worse, right?

For Joe, yes, it could be (and was) much worse.

Last night, we brushed teeth, put on pjs, washed up and settled down to read, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Joe came home. Chaos ensued. For 10 minutes, the little maniacs were running around their room screaming. I shot Joe the evil eye. He looked at me innocently, wondering what he was doing wrong. Again…not really anything. The girls were just excited to see him before bed.

Did he say, ‘Time to calm down, girls’? No.

Did he pick them up and try to settle them down? No.

Joe picked Abs up so we could all do our routine together…and she puked on him. Not I’m-sick-and-that-felt-better puke, but more like next-time-don’t-let-me-run-around-like-a-crazy-child puke.

She threw up on him and then laughed. I laughed. M laughed. Joe stomped out. Heh…I’m giggling as I type this.

LOL Serves him right. HeeHee
We go through that here to. Little one in bed, hubby comes home and it’s like the second coming. Only he breezes though, does the parade wave, then goes to bed while I try to calm everyone down.

I threaten to walk out every night and make him do it himself, but I’ve never actually done it. I guarantee, if I got puked on, I would avoid bed time at all costs!

Ha! I keep telling my husband that baby puke is a sign of her affection, but he’s not buying it. Enjoy your payback!

That is a beautiful story! Now why doesn’t my daughter learn to puke on her father once it a while, bet that would fix him when he decides to start chasing and raising hell with her once I’ve got her quieted down for the night, I’m laughing too, thanks for sharing!

HAHAHA! I didn’t even know kids did that until my son was born. It’s so gross! We have learned the hard way pop tarts and fun time don’t mix.

My husband did the exact same thing with our kids! I wanted to kill him. But dang it, mine didn’t puke on him!

Oooohhh.. I’ll have to teach Hannah that trick! Maybe then Tim will enter into the goodnight routine at his own risk! He rarely sees the kids before they go to bed so when he does he likes to be “noticed”. It makes me want to kill him. Maybe I should puke on him instead!

Ha! Bet that learned him. :)

Brian sometimes gets home just as we’re wrapping up story time, and he couldn’t hide out downstairs if he wanted to because they start jumping up and down and squealing the second they hear the door open. Usually, it just delays the process a few minutes…but I’ll be sure to share this cautionary tale.

That’s hilarious! I have the same problem whenever my husband comes home, too. No he doesn’t do anything to calm them down either. I should be so lucky!
