Ghosts and my imagination. Did I mention ghosts?
I believe in Ghosts. Not when anyone else tells me about their experiences (they’re just crazy and looking for attention), but certainly when I hear strange noises in my own house.
Lately, we’ve had some freaky shit going on here. For starters, with the white noise machine in the girls’ room. I put it on every night, as I have for the last few years. It’s always at the same volume, and always set to the same sound – static. I never change it. The peeping frogs and singing birds just don’t do it for the girls. We leave it on all night.
For the last couple of nights, I’ve gone in and the machine has been off. No one has touched it. It’s too tall for M to reach. So weird. Maybe it was somehow set to a timer? Not a chance. I have not done anything different when turning it on each night.
Yesterday morning, I went in to get Abs out of her crib and was greeted by the sound of a dying seagull. WTF is that? The noise machine. The buttons to change the sound are on the front of the machine. Quite hard to reach, actually. Even if you hit it by accident, the seagulls are a few clicks beyond the static ,and nowhere near the volume buttons or the ‘off’ button. Weird.
Last night, after the girls got out of the tub, we were playing in their room for a bit. I swore I heard a man’s voice saying, “Daddy” but I didn’t hear the familiar click of the downstairs gate or the front door closing. Again, weird. I shook it off as being in my imagination, but then M said, “Daddy’s home. Hide!!”
She heard it, too?
Daddy was NOT home. No one was here. We both heard a voice.
Of course there had to be an explanation. The answer is simple – evil spirits in my house. Comforting.
Joe got home, I told him about the ‘voice.’ He got freaked out. Not because I told him the story, but because our 5 year old daughter could back up my claims. If she heard it, it must be true. If I heard it, it’s because I watch too much TV.
What are those noises and voices that I am hearing? Who the Hell is changing the noise machine? Is this asshole the reason Abs is waking us up nightly for hours at a time? If so, Ghost, consider yourself about to be exorcised. Because me, on 4 or 5 hours of sleep, is MUCH scarier than you’ll ever be.
Casper, you have been warned.

How creepy. I believe in ghosts. I’ve heard them and seen them.
Growing up I’ve seen my nanny and a few other people.
Also heard the “voices” in the house. First time I did I was 12 and I ran 5 miles non stop to my mom’s work. lol
I would research the history of your house to start. Then call paranormal activity on A&E ’cause the founder is a hottie. LOL

We are the first who have ever lived here, that’s the crazy thing. We moved in when it was new. I wonder if it’s built on a Poltergeist burial ground.
I could just see the trucks lined up outside, and Joe and I asking about the procedures – EVP session, EMF detector…oh yeah, we watch those shows…

I quite freaked out myself. Last night, when I was explaining it to my husband, he was a bit spooked, too.

I went to the shrink a while ago (no, I’m not a new yorker) and he asked me if i heard voices, which in itself was awkward, but hey I answered truthfully. Yes I have heard voices, just as you have with your kid. So he said I should take meds for it….. Never went to him again!!!

I’d try to switch rooms with the kids, just to see if it affects their sleep.
Oh, and when it happened to me, I got up on my bed (i was a teenager), and I yelled at that “person” to get out and leave me alone. it never made itself heard again! Hahaha

Meds? What a nut!
Last night, my youngest had trouble sleeping again, so I laid down in their room for a while, kind of hoping I’d hear or see something, but mostly hoping I wouldn’t!!

I very much believe in the paranormal. Could be a haunting. Don’t jump the gun and think it’s an evil presence though. It could be something just passing through. Ask it nicely to leave and to go to the light.

I was half-teasing about the evil part, but this is all quite new to me, as I’ve been such a skeptic. I’ve got to give myself a few tests – leave the machine unplugged, etc. just to make sure I’m not losing my marbles.

Okay the voice thing is very creepy, especially since your daughter heard it too. Why don’t you call the Ghosthunters guys?
I always worry about hearing voices or seeing things since we live in an old house You know, constantly wondering if anyone died in here. And if they did, WHERE?
Keep us updated, I’d love to know if anything else happens…

This may sound silly, but here’s what I did about ghosts in my house. We live in a house built in 1910 so who knows how many people are lurking around here! The first year we lived here, we heard unexplainable noises or found closed doors that we know we left open. I finally decided to believe that my house is a safe haven and that anyone who lives here is friendly and just has good taste in houses. Any time I would get creeped out, I would say out loud, “Good morning everyone.” or “I hope you’re comfortable here in this beautiful home.” Perhaps it worked or maybe I just talked myself out of being scared, but things settled down after that. Good luck!

That is freaky…especially since you both heard the same thing. We have had two old houses and I am always concerned we will find out they have a ghost. I am not 100% sure I believe in ghosts as I still look for rational explanations (short in white noise machine or low batteries), but deep down I know if the same thing happened to me, I would be convinced Casper was visiting. Good luck with that!!

Holy Crap! That’s what I was thinking while I was reading this.
I haven’t ever had anything in my home that I was concerned about but I too believe that sometimes “people” are a little closer than I’d like. The one time that I was freaked I prayed. That worked very, very nicely. The other times were all good. As in my nephew being asked if he wanted a baby brother or sister & him shaking his head no. Then all of a sudden he started to jabber a bit when they asked him if he wanted a brother. What was really crazy was asking him if he wanted a sister & him going nuts & then turning & talking to thin air. Absolutely amazing.
Oh & one more. When my (older) sister was maybe 2 1/2, my parents lived out in the desert about 7 hrs from their families. One time they were up visiting & my grandma took out a photo album to show my mom. My sister had been talking about “Grandma” before they left & yet when they saw the two grandma’s she said that no, that they weren’t who she was talking to. Anyway, Grandma pulled out this album & they started looking @ it when all of a sudden my sister started to squeal & tell them that here was her grandma. It was a picture of my grandmother’s grandma. A woman who had died long before my sister was born. In fact my mom never knew her.
Here’s to good & kind loved ones!

Freaky. I totally believe, as well. Especially when things like this happen. Word has it that children hear and see more than we do, or we can remember / imagine, so if your daughter heard it I’m totally buying it. Look out, Casper, indeed!

Are your cats (cat?) acting weird?
I usually don’t freak about sounds unless my dog hears them too. Then, I push him out into the the room where the noise was first. It’s all very scooby and shaggy.

So far, they have been no weirder than usual, but that’s pretty weird to start with!
It’s funny you mention that – when I was a kid, I came home from school and my dog was howling like a wolf. Never heard him do it before. Turns out, our neighbor had died that day. I totally believe animals can sense this stuff, too, so I’ll be watching the cats even more closely.
I don’t think the ghost likes me blogging about him because there hasn’t been anything funky since the post!

Weird shit is right! We use those sound machines, too, and Annie’s is a little finicky in that it will turn off on its own if not positioned just right. Brian is a big believer in ghosts. He swears the house they grew up in is haunted, and his sister claims she felt something sit on her bed once and then saw an imprint in the comforter–when she was totally alone. Hubs also thinks our last house gave off a haunted vibe, but no such creepy feeling at this address. All three places feel the same to me, so clearly I’m not a medium like my husband and your girl. At least sounds like your ghosts are friendly and just having a little fun with you.

We thought there were ghosts in the last place we lived. I was afraid to go to sleep, because I kept waiting for noises or cold drafts or smacks upside the head. Yeah, I watch those shows too. I’m glad we moved. I say as long as the spirit isn’t harming you or doing any Paranormal Activity sort of thing, maybe just think of him as a roommate and try to charge rent.

I’m with Lady Mama: give the white noise machine the boot. Stat.
And if that doesn’t work, how about a call to the Ghostbusters? They did wonders for some New Yorkers in the 80s.

I totally believe in ghosts….but I have never actually had a personal experience with one. This kind of freaked me out! A friend of mine has a mirror in her bathroom that tilts. They keep it straight but the ghost likes it tilted facing down toward the sink. He also likes all blankets to be folded on the floor at the end of the bed instead of actually on the bed. He even moves ones in other rooms to their proper bedrooms. Insanity I say!
