From Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop: “Open your picture folders…find a random “February” picture from a past year and tell a story.”
Gladly!
I wanted to go as far back in my photos as I could. I bring you to Valentine’s Day, 2003. Joe and I were newlyweds, with no kids. We still took weekend trips. This year, we spent Valentine’s at the Captain’s House Inn on Cape Cod.
Everything about it was great! Beautiful room, big whirlpool tub, crackling fireplace…and maybe 5 minutes after we arrived, I got sick. Hacking cough, sore throat, the works.
It wasn’t going to stop us! We went to dinner, drank some wine, and tried our best to enjoy ourselves, despite me practically falling asleep on my dinner plate. We were newlyweds, damn it! It’s supposed to be fun and romantic!!
Some Ny-Quil and Day-Quil and a good night’s sleep later, we took a drive to the ocean. Never, in my life, have I seen snow on the beach. And I live in New England. It was THAT cold. We met a snow man, froze our asses off, and both came home sick, all in the name of romance.
The picture I really wanted to show was a funny one of Joe taking a bath, but I love him too much. And I can’t find it.

I was shocked the first time I came to RI in the winter and there was snow at the beach! I’m from California and that doesn’t exist in my mind!!! Valentines day is the first “holiday” I spent with my hubby. It was when I decided I would marry him…because he could cook!

Sweet story. Too bad about the cold but at least you still managed to enjoy yourself!

The story was very sad/funny but I love that last photo. The ocean & sky look so beautifully cold. And I had never thought of a sandy beach w/ snow. Makes sense but still.

Sometimes it’s the memories that are better than the actual event! glad you can enjoy retelling the story even if it wasn’t what you hoped it would be 7 years ago!
