Eclipse. It was pretty good!
True Blood had thrown a wet blanket over my Twilight craze. The show is better than the movies, the Sookie Stackhouse books are better than the Twilight series. I thought I was over Twilight – I wasn’t sure that I’d even see it in the theater, possibly just waiting for the DVD and make Joe sit through it with me. Then the trailers came out, I got excited, but my expectations were pretty low. A friend (Thank you, S!) invited me to see it last night, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised!
Catchy opening scene? Check. If hadn’t stopped time (and breathing) whenever a trailer came on the TV, I might have missed it…it started pretty suddenly. Ok, Eclipse…you have my attention. What’s next? Edward putting the squeeze on Bella to marry him…come on, buddy. You can do better. But, I get it, her blood ‘sings’ to you. Fine. Keep pushing. The scene in his room when he brought in a bed and she tried to get it on like a teenaged boy? Well done. I’ll admit, yet later deny, that I smiled ear to ear when she accepted his proposal.
This time around, the makeup was so much better. New Moon was almost unwatchable to me, the way Edward looked like he borrowed makeup tips from Memoirs of a Geisha. I liked the way they involved some of the other characters that we haven’t heard much from (Rose and Jasper, in particular.) This was a better story. The screenwriter did a decent job of translating from book to screen, while keeping pretty true to the book.
What didn’t I like? Victoria. What was wrong with the old Victoria? She barely had any lines in this film, and she looked like a drag queen. Also, the sparkles. Or lack thereof. I have accepted the fact that Edward sparkles in the sun, thus, you’d think he would avoid the sun. Not in these super-believable movies!! Edward seemed to spend a *lot* of time in the sun. He went to Florida! Why didn’t Bella’s mom question why he was inside all-the-friggin-time?
The fight scene, though, watchable and exciting, was straight out of the Matrix. Since when did vampires fight like this? Why would Jasper have known these moves (you know, back in the 1800′s??), when he just happened to be an expert in eliminating newborn vampire armies? Is this a rampant problem? Did he invent this style of combat? Do we have Jasper Hale to thank for some of our favorite action flicks?
All in all, I really liked it. The movie was well done. Bella/Kristen Stewart kept the lip biting and general mopiness to a minimum. Edward/Robert Pattinson did just as I expected him to do (he could have stood still on the screen for 2 hours, and he would have fulfilled my expectations.) I’d see it again…if fact, I kind of want to!

I wrote an Eclipse review too! I wrote an Eclipse review too. I’ll wait here till you go read it… waiting… waiting…
Okay! So… I LOVED ECLIPSE!!!! It was my favourite book out of the 4. I, like you, sort of fell out of obsession with the whole Twilight Saga a few weeks after watching New Moon. BUT once I was in the theatre last Tuesday for the premiere (the same night as my 7 year anniversary!) I got VERY EXCITED! I even wore a sparkly top. (I’m such a geek.)
This movie was awesome, the tent scene was my favourite – same as in the book! And the new Victoria didn’t piss me off as much as the old Victoria. I LOVED the old Victoria MUCH MORE, though. The reason they got a new Victoria is because they got into a fight with the old Victoria over something – I can’t remember what now!
Anyway! Yay!!!! I hope they don’t screw up Breaking Dawn… I really, really hope they don’t…

I like Jacob…A lot…But, I guess my omission (not on purpose) does confirm my Team Edward status! How funny was the line, “Doesn’t he own a shirt?”

“Bella/Kristen Stewart kept the lip biting and general mopiness to a minimum.” LOVE IT!! As one of my friends put it, Kristen Stewart is a dumpster fire.
I haven’t seen it yet (going tomorrow afternoon) but have to admit I was a little bit in your shoes. I knew I would see it in the theater but my general excitement has faded. Then I started hearing all these people (not just teen agers or TwiMoms) saying it ‘eclipsed’ the other two movies… so now I’m getting more excited to see it. On the other hand, it’s my favorite book of the series and Jasper is my favorite character… so I’m trying to keep my expectations even lower than with the first two so I won’t be too disappointed.

I’ll see it- but most likely in the theater.
I watch and love True Blood. I haven’t read the books but I’m afraid to- I get really annoying with comparing book to movie.

I haven’t wanted to see this because of my disappointment in the last two but maybe I’ll go see it next week after all of the tweeners are done.

Last night, it was all people my age and older in the theater. I think the teens and tweens are smarter than us this time around!

It really was better. I loved the story of Twilight, but this movie was made much better than the others. Enjoy it! It has made me want to read the Eclipse novella about Bree Tanner.

You have until the 5th of July to read the novella about Bree Tanner. I liked it but hate that I became invested in a character that gets killed!

I loved Eclipse… I’m really 17. The direction was well done and Robert P. and Taylor L. were delicious. Kristen Stewart, on the other hand, showed no emotion (except for one scene near the end). All in all, a fun movie

Late to the party on this post, but I followed it over from your True Blood let-down post (totally agree, by the way). My Twilight obsession has peaked and waned too, but I liked Eclipse. By far their best acting so far, and YES to the improvement of Edwardian makeup. Memoirs of a Geisha indeed!
I admit to laughing (at them, not with them) during the fighting scenes, but then again, I’m mostly there for my boy Jacob.
